Red Rock Fault, SW Montana

Red Rock

View looking west at triangular facets on the Red Rock Fault, an active normal fault in southwestern Montana. Undergraduate geology students have mapped the Red Rock Fault and analyzed the geomorphology of alluvial fans in its hanging wall as part of the UO summer field camp program since 2010. This active fault provides an excellent natural laboratory for learning the tools and field methods of neotectonics.
